Surreal Cyberpunk
Cyberpunk as a genre seems to lend itself to the development of surreal images. Movies such as Tetsuo - The Ironman, which started an entire genre of surreal cyberpunk, base their narrative on fantastic imagery and incongruous juxtapositions. It’s not that the storyline is absent - just that comprehension requires a very different mindset. Still, this is a squishy category to define, as everyone seems to have a different definition of surreal. If you see a movie listed here you don’t think belongs - make a case for it - I may change my mind. Like all of my themes categories, I don’t distinguish here between movies and animes (which are very influential in cyberpunk) - you will see both listed.
And yes, I realize I don’t have all possible surreal cyberpunk movies listed…yet. I’m still in the process of uploading my reviews. If you have one in mind that you don’t see here, let me know, and I’ll bump it up in priority.
