Worst cyberpunk-related film ever |

If I were to name one, it would have to be The Lawnmower Man 2, a truly appalling take on the cyberpunk theme, complete with amateurish acting, ghastly SFX and horrid art direction. That it followed the eminently enjoyable Lawnmower Man makes it even worse- the original, while looking rather dated- an average computer game (from 2-3 years ago) probably beats it as far as effects are concerned), was still a great film, the transformation of the main character depicted vividly and convincingly. While not to everyone's taste, it was an intelligent take on the theme. The sequel, meanwhile, oozes sheer stupidity from the start. Even worse than this, we get incongrously dressed kids looking as if they came from Sesame Street, sentient superdogs and a "dystopian" landscape rendered using sets that would shame an average school stage show.
Anyone new to the genre, be warned- do not start your exploration of cyberpunk films with this one. In fact, you'd be better off not going near it at all- even if you have seen lots of good films in your life- as watching it constitutes a mental health hazard. It is also unspeakably boring- a much more fascinating way to spend time is watching a beer can rust. A sad mockery of cyberpunk in every way, this rotten egg is best avoided.

Lawnmower man 2 is a fine choice for worst cyberpunk flick of all time. Some of the Nemesis sequels might be a decent choice as well. But for me, I'm going with Cybernator!!!
And while the cover looks bad, you ain't seen nothin yet!!! This really is a "bring your own special effects from home" kind of movie. I'm planning to do a review of this soon, but suffice to say this is NOT the best movie ever. It really does make Lawnmower Man 2 turn into something like the Matrix. It's companion movie, Digital Prophet, is slightly better, but still not up to the level of Lawnmower Man 2.

Whoa the cover alone looks ghastly enough... might try it sometime- if they give away the discs for free...

You can get this and digital prophet for like 13 bucks at Amazon, although its not worth it at all - not even the 6 I paid for it.
But in thinking about it, I might actually stick American Cyborg: Steel Warrior below Cybernator. Cybernator at least has that "So bad its good" aura to it, whereas Steel Warrior is just annoyingly horrid. It TRULY is a hard movie to get through.

Short Circuit?
That makes me cringe just thinking about it.

Oh come on - "I am thinking to my self that Short Circuit buys of fun!"
I actually have a soft spot for this movie (not the sequel), but I don't consider it cyberpunk. It's a comedy with a robot.

Well, one can never beat youth-sentiment
Personally I have this thing for Greatest American Hero (but that could be because of my crush on Connie Selleca at the time) and Quantum Leap.
But you are right, these wouldn't qualify as cyberpunk.

Now you have done it.
I have been humming "Who's Johnny" for the last hour or so.
People are starting to give me funny looks and just now someone was making a phonecall while mumbling in a very soft voice.

Ooohhh, Greatest American Hero was pretty fun, and yeah, the chick was kickin in it. As a young teen though, my first real crush was Linda Carter (Wonder Woman), as was pretty much every kid back then.
And GAWD - DEFINITELY an addictive themesong to Greatest American Hero.

Reading comments on IMDB...this
Cybercity aka Shepherd, by Peter Hayman. I would watch it but i don't find it. Perhaps is a good thing...
EDIT. on IMDB this movie has 0,7 more points than cybernator. The Winner is...Cybernator _________________ Italian Cyberpunk Forum

If you haven't already, check out my screencaps on Cybernator. This movie is definitely in the "soo bad it's good" category.

Haven't seen "Cybernator," 'couldn't get more than five minutes into "American Cyborg" or "Lawnmower Man 2" (Hell, I couldn't sit through "Lawnmower 1")... I'm gonna have to say the worst I've seen is probably "Overdrawn at the Memory Bank." 'Just excruciating...poor Raul Julia. Between that and "Street Fighter"...ugh... However, "Overdrawn" was made infinitely more watchable by the MST3K 'bots. But, then, what isn't? _________________ “Time moves in one direction, memory in another.” - William Gibson
