The American Film Institute (AFI) recently announced a broadcast of their updated 100 years, 100 films list on CBS on June 20 beginning @ 8:00 pm/20:00 eastern time. Among the films nominated for the new list is The Matrix. They also plan to do this list every 10 years so seeing how certain movies stand the test of time will be interesting.
AFI's last list had no cyberpunk movies on it, even though Blade Runner and Terminator 1&2 would have qualified then. Can any cyberpunk movie make the list, will The Matrix be the sole representative for cyberpunk, or will we be shut out again?
Several cyberpunk films did make AFI's 100 most thrilling films (Alien @ #6, Terminator - 42, Matrix - 66, Blade Runner - 74, and T2 - 77), but it would be great to see them on their main list.
What movie(s) should make AFI's list?

I wish I could vote for Alien too, their both among my most beloved movies ever, though I don't concider Alien cyberpunk at all. _________________ I hate it here.

Gotta be Bladerunner ,
The Matrix is also worthy of being on the list.
Alien is also good also but I personally don't class it as CP.
(despite what the review here may say.....)

Yes! Blade Runner must go on it! I think its just generally been agreed upon by almost all critics by this point that Blade Runner was one of the most influential films to come out during the 80s, not only on the SF genre, but on cinema as a whole. It needs to be on there, but if it doesn't make it, Blade Runner was too good for the American Film Institute. _________________ "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe... I keep forgetting that these can only be American movies. Hence, no Metropolis.

Tonight, we're going to find out if Blade Runner makes the list. They start counting them down on CBS starting 8:00pm Eastern time.
Looks like everyone (that voted) wants to see BR on the list, and with BR - The Final Cut coming, I can understand the excitement. Though in all honesty, I think The Matrix has a better chance making the list due to its technical influences like the "bullet time" effect.
Stay tuned, we'll post where they land on the big list. And if they don't, we'll just have to wait another ten years.

Fuckin A!
Blade Runner made #97!!!
Even more interesting was Ford's comments...
| Quote: | | There was a bit of contest between Ridley and I over there the character I played, Deckard, was a replicant or not. I resisted the idea of being a replicant, I suppose, as a replicant would. |

Haha, delicious quote, I'm still going with Deckard as human. _________________ "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe... Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion.
