Web 2.0 … The Machine is Us/ing Us
zephyrin_xirdal on xirdalium posted this Youtube Video on Web 2.0 that’s currently sweeping the web. It’s truly the best short on understanding the evolution toward Web 2.0 that I’ve seen. While I would recommend Wikinomics to those looking for a deeper understanding of how mass collaboration is changing the way we create and manage knowledge, this Youtube video by Professor Michael Wesch of the Kansas State Digital Ethnography project is just terrific. It really hits home the notion that mass collaboration leads to an emergent global intelligence that is more incredible than anything we could have planned.

There’s another way this can go…
ZDNet’s Mitch Ratcliffe blogged about the dark direction Web 2.0 can go in Are we headed for Idiocracy? This is where “mass collaboration” ultimately leads to instant mass gratification at the lowest common denominator, like using “f***k” at every opportunity.
Consider yourselves warned.

Yes, it does appear the link is broken. And searching anything on ‘YouTube’ is like tossing a coin into a well and wondering if your wish will come true or not…
‘Mass Collaboration’ sounds interesting. ‘Mass Mediation of Knowledge’ (or MAMOK) could stem from this; its where everyone has a slightly different interpretation of version of events but with everyone contributing a ‘mean’ is reached where all the details are (intuitively) averaged out. Kinda cool :P.

Sorry guys - it came up fine on my machine. Apparently I had cached it. The centering position I gave it seemed to have short circuited the link.
